Description:
Colonel Hess was shot down over North Vietnam on August 24, 1967. He spent 2,029 days, which is more than 5 years in various prison camps in North Vietnam, including the notorious Hanoi Hilton. In March of 2010, I was fortunate to wittness Col. Hess return to the skies for his "Fini Flight" at Randolph AFB, in San Antonio, Texas. The 560th Flying Training Squadron allowed Col. Hess the opportunity to take off and land...the right way, complete with champagne!
