Painting shows the change over on this third day of May, 1943. It was with great pleasure that I have the honour to hand over to you this Royal Air Force Station...Among other stations, performed its share in the defensive fighter role of this island. Now that tide of battle has turned in favour of the United Nations...Will be well to the fore, under your command performing an offensive fighter role. When the time comes for you to return to your native country, we shall be happy to receive this station, knowing that history has been made affecting our respective countries and seeming a bond of friendship that must endure for all times.
