Reference and experience was gathered for this painting during a visit to Keesler AFB in Mississippi to view the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The power and destruction caused by the storm was immense. The first building we visited large base hospital which had been virtually destroyed. All the medical records had been saved due to heroic efforts of the Air Force and civillian personnel just prior to the storm. These two Air Force personnel, Airman Miller and Staff Sgt. Hartman were setting up emergency medical service in parking lot of hospital. The medical team was already providing entire care to the people in the area.
