I was struck by the great gulf between the Okinawan way of life and ours. They love the land. Their resentment at the amount being used for huge air bases, other military installations, officer clubs, golf courses, and big four and six-lane highways was obvious. This is not intended as criticism, but simply a report of what I saw: the calm, plodding natives going about their own affairs while ignoring the frantic and senseless dashing about of the stranger.
