Description:
Some Americans Flew On The British Front In Camels. (17th 148th Squadron). Shown Is Lt. Vaughn Of The 17th Aero Squadron Thinking He Had Downed The Fokker D-7 Of Jasta 27 Of Jg-II, Flown By Lt. Noltenius As Its Fabric Began Pealing Off Its Top Wing. He Then Had To Avoid Another D-7, Attacking Him, Shooting Down Another While Escaping A Tail Spin At The Last Minute. He Was Given Credit For Both. In Turn One Of The Germans Was Credited With Shooting Him Down. Sixty Years Later George Vaughn Found Out That Noltenius (20 Victories) Had Not Been Shot Down But Had Been One Of The Fokkers Attacking Him. The German Never Knew He Had Failed To Get Vaughn. An Example How Easy It Is To Make A Mistake In The Heat Of Combat. Vaughn Is Credited With 9.5 Victoires.
