Description:
A combat took place over the Toul Aerodrome at such a low altitude that everyone on the ground saw the complete battle. Lt. Alan Winslow and Lt. Douglas Campbell of the 94th Aero Squadron lifted their Nieuport 28 fighters into the dull Sunday sky to meet 2-German fighters, one an Albatross and the other a Pfalz Scout. In a few moments they shot down both planes. In this brief performance of their skills as aviators, they became America's first Eagles.
