When The Artist Decided To Do A Painting Of A Spad, He Wanted Something Out The Ordinary. The Scene Would Be The Meuse-Argonne Area. Putnam's Plane, Spad XIII, Was Chosen Because He Painted It Red. This Was Unique For He Was The Only One Who Did. This Information Has Only Come To Light Recently. Historically It Was The Only Red Spad On Any Such Gaudily Painted A/C In The American Air Service.The Enemy A/C Are Fokker DVII Of The Famous Blue Tails Union The Americans Encountered Frequently.
