This painting depicting flyers over an unknown territory, is one of a group from the Robert H. Laessig collection of over 80 pieces donated to the Air Force art collection. As a Staff Sergeant with the Army Air Corps at the time, Laessig provided a most outstanding artistic record of the Southwest Pacific campaigns during WW II. His watercolors and ink drawings give an accurate account of operations and events of the 5th, 7th, and 13th Air Forces. More than that, Laessig gives insight into the spirit of the American fighting man.
