Description:
Under The Sponsorship Of The Af Flight Dynamics Laboratory, The USAF Instrument Pilot Instructors School Conducted An Investigation Into The Piloting Requirements For Landing In Extremely Low Visibility Conditions. This Experiment, Conducted In The Late 1960s Made Use Of A T-39 Aircraft (Depicted Here In Landing) Especially Modified To Permit The Tests In Actual Weather Conditions--Frequently To Zero-Zero Ceiling Visibility. The Results Of This Program Produced Valuable Training Films (Still In Use Today), As Well As An Understanding Of The Equipment Requirements By Engineers Which Has Ultimately Produced Systems Enabling Routine Landings Under Weather Conditions Where They Were Previously Impossible. The Benefits Of The Program Are Apparent In Todays Enhanced Capabilities Of Both The Air Force And Commercial Aviation.
