As A Staff Sergeant With The Army Air Corps At The Time, Laessig Provided One Of The Most Outstanding Records Of The Southwest Pacific Campaigns During World War II. His Watercolors Give An Accurate Account Of Operations And The Stirring Events Of The Fifth, Seventh And Thirteenth Air Forces. More Than That, Laessig Gives Us Insight Into The Spirit Of The American Fighting Man.
This painting of a Bell P-39 Airacobra aircraft flying over a makeshift radar site, is one of over 80 from the Robert H. Laessig collection the Department of the Air Force is very honored to have. As a Staff Sergeant with the Army Air Corps during World War II, Mr. Laessig provided through his art (mostly watercolors), some of the most accurate accounts of the Pacific campaigns by the 5th, 7th and 13th Air Forces. He later became known for his beautiful floral and botanical artwork, and designed Christmas cards for President Lyndon B. Johnson and First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson.
