On 12 December 1941, over Batangas Airfield on Luzon Island in the Philippines, Capt Jesus Villamor and members of his 6th Pursuit Squadron attacked a formation of over 60 Japanese bombers and fighters. Outnumbered more than 10 to 1 in their outdated P-26 fighters, they shot down 3 planes while losing 3 of their own.
