This Painting Was The Result Of A Four Week Air Force Trip To The North East Air Command In The Spring Of 1956. It Was My First And Perhaps Most Unusual Trip In That The Arctic Area Was Completely New To Me.The Aircraft In The Painting Are Northrop F-89, Two Engine All Weather Interceptors--A Very Dramatic Aircraft And At That Time Still Contemporary. The One Thing That Most Impressed Me About This Area Was The Vastness Of This Desert Arctic Wasteland, And Above All The Quality Of Light Which Prevails In These Northern Latitudes. The Sun, Always Low On The Horizon, Red In Color And Casting Long Dramatic Shadows, Was A Fascinating Sight.
