One Morning During My Tour In Alaska, I Went To Headquarters On Business And Found New Conditions Prevailing. The Doors, Normally Open To All On The Base Were Guarded By Armed Personnel--A Practice Alert Was In Effect. Upon Completing My Business, I Rushed To The Take-Off Strip To Watch A Flight Of F-102s Leap Into The Air. Rain Had Fallen, Turning The Strip Into A Gray Mirror For The Storm Clouds Scudded Above The Wasatch Mountains. In My Painting, Alaskan Alert, I Tried To Capture That Exciting Moment When A F-102 Becomes Airborne And The Gear Is Caught Being Stowed. The Instant When A Heavier-Than-Aircraft Changes From One Element To Another Will Be A Never Ending Thrill To Me.
