This F-100 Painting Was Inspired As A Result Of A Trip I Made With The Air Force Touring Morocco (North African Bases) Where These Aircraft Were Being Used. The Weather Was Hot And Although The Sky Was Not Yellow, I Felt That A Yellow Sky Would Best Convey The Feeling Of Blazing Sunlight That Prevails. I Felt Great Compassion For The Pilots--Like The One In This Painting (Lt. Harry E. Payne), Who Was Required To Wear The Pressure Suit And Helmet As Protection Against Possible Decompression At The High Altitudes At Which Thees Aircraft Fly.
