On April 9, 1944, Twelve 386th Squadron A-20gs, Led By Group Co, Colonel Bob Strauss, Passed Wewak Mission, Strafing Targets Of Opportunity En Route To The Main Objectives Of Buildings And Storage At Boram Airdrome, Near Wom Point. Three Of The Accompanying Planes Are Depicted In The Foreground Of The Paintings. Anti-Aircraft Fire Was Unusually Intense, But Due To The Low Level, Surprise Attack, All Twelve Planes Returned Safely, With Only One Plane Suffering Minor Ground-Fire Damage. Fires Were Started And Destruction Of Small Buildings And Storage Facilities Were Observed. The 312th Bombardment Group Flew Some 70 Missions Against Targets In The Wewak Complex, The General Target Area Which Received More Strikes From The 312th Than Any Other During Its Action In The South Pacific.
