Approach to Tempelhof Airfield during Berlin Blockade in 1947-1948 when C-54 pilots dropped candy to the children watching them come in with food, clothing, and coal during the fifteen month operation by the Air Force to counter-act the Russian blockade imposed on West Berlin. The letter is one of many received by Colonel Halvorsen from the children of Berlin who called him the "Chocolate Bomber". Colonel Halvorsen conceived the idea of the candy drops by parachutes made of handkerchiefs, shorts, sheets, , and other goods.
