A touching bit of Americana far from home inspired this painting depicting 1950s, post world war II military family life in Japan. The artist wrote: Impressed and inspired by the human side of the Air Force story, my thoughts kept going back again and again to the men and women in the Air Force away from home. . . It was at Ichiban Village where I found an important theme for a painting when my eye was taken by an unmistakable American outdoor barbecue grill fashioned with love and care by a Non-Commissioned officer of the US Air Force strictly for family pleasure. This was my story: The American in a foreign land sharing his customs and pleasures with his friends and neighbors, old and new.
