The Artist Describes The Raison D'etre Of This Painting: A Hangar During The Day Is A Huge Moving Operation Made Up Of Many Men And Machines Doing Hundreds Of Things To Maintain And Service The Aircraft. My Original Sketches And Notes Were Based Upon Daytime Operations, But Each Time I Came Back At Light To Get More Details And Reference Material--The Darkness With A Few Lights Spotted Around, The Echo Of A Guards' Footsteps, The Aircraft So Still--Made Me Feel More And More That This Was The Way To Paint A Hangar, Men, And Planes.F-102
