Based On Sketches Made At Kamina, Congo, While On An Air Force Trip Covering The Airlift To Congo For UN And Operations Using United States Planes Within The Country. The Artist Painted The Scene At Kamina Airfield. This Shows Congolese Soldiers From Lumumba's Army (Who Had Attempted An Invasion Of Katango) Being Evacuated By The UN To Stanleyville. The Soldiers Had Surrendered Voluntarily And Were Bivouacked On The Airfield Under Guard Of Irish UN Troops. The Groups Were Friendly And Glad That They Were Out Of The Fighting And On Their Way Back To Their Own Areas.
