The painting was conceptualized from a speech given by George W. Bush to the Air Force troops, etc. wherein he stated, "You've given the terrorist the first lesson in their fate." The C-17 is the Air Force's primary global transport workhorse, used in the global war on terror (campaigns such as "Desert Storm," "Operation Iraqi Freedom," etc.). The plane is known for creating an awesome dust storm when lifting off in the desert. My concept was to illustrate the president's speech by utilizing the idea of having the plane's dust storm "of purpose" represent "Desert Storm" as a lesson in fate.
