This picture concerns the lineage of the Thunderbird aerial demonstration team in the aircraft they have operated over the past three decades. All aircraft are depicted in their appropriate paint scheme for the period they were flown with the team. They are arranged here in what team members commonly refer to as the "Outhouse" formation. The formation has just completed a barrel roll and is pulling off the show line in a turn for their next maneuver. Thunderbird members will easily recognize the background as being the approach end of Runway 02 left, at their home field of Nellis AFB, Nevada. I attempted to show in this work that although the technology in aircraft design has changed considerably in the past 30 years, the Thunderbirds have remained true to their mission: to effectively demonstrate the aerial ballet produced when pilots are properly attuned to their mounts.
