American POW, Lieutenant Colonel James L. Hughes, is paraded barefoot and bandaged by two Vietnamese Soldiers during the Vietnam War. Lt. Col Hughes, an F-105 Pilot, was shot down and captured over Hanoi. He spent 2,131 days in captivity. His wife, Mrs. Paula Hughes, tried hard to bring the plight of U.S. prisoners in Vietnam before the public.
From the artist: “As an U.S. Air Force Artist in Vietnam in 1967, I was Painting Lt. Colonel Hughes earlier in the day he was shot down. The group of Air Force wives of POWs who are working for their men's return have asked for and received my work and aid for the Past Year. I continue to work for their group.”
