From the artist: As the pilots told me---met that trio over at the 469th who pulled off the first raid on the thermal power plant. Old Rowan doesn't look like a hero, and he sure doesn't sound like a hero, but he is one of the real heros here. Major John Rowan had ingeniously worked out a plan to take in only three planes. And although headquarters preferred sending a great armada, John, Sam Martin, and Buddy Bowman streaked in at between 20 and 50 feet through mist and clouds and high hills to make a perfect strike on this power horse of war making. The F-105 pilots are the least flamboyant there are. They just do most of the heavy-duty tough work.
