Staff Sergeant Charles Moose was a Chippewa native American who served during World War II. He had not wandered far from his home of Isle, Mille Lacs County, Minnesota, before enlisting in the Army Air Forces, and becoming an aircraft crew-chief, serving in Africa, Sicily, and mainland Italy. Here he sits on an abandoned palace chair given by the king of France to the king of Naples, situated against the olive drab of a prefabricated “Nissen Hut” (precursor of the Quonset Hut Shelter) of the American Army in southern Italy.
