Description:
This is a pencil sketch of Chaplain Robert Preston Taylor, third Chief of Chaplains for the Air Force. In May 1941 he was posted to Manila, the only chaplain assigned to the 31st Regiment. With the declaration of war, the Regiment was transferred to Bataan. After the surrender of forces, he became a member of the Bataan Death March. As a noncombatant, he could have been released from capture but instead stayed and ministered to the sick and injured at the Cabanatuan prison camp hospital. In 1944 he spent 4 months in solitary confinement for smuggling in food and drugs for the patients. Throughout his imprisionment, he conducted weekly worship services which served to provide hope for the prisoners.
