Description:
My Inspiration For This Painting Was The Spirit Of The Allies In Meeting The Challenge Of The Blockade Of Berlin. I Chose A Pilot Studying The Weather Conditions And Sees A Break In The Heavy Rain That Radar Could Not Penetrate. His Expression Shows Thankfulness That The Beleaguered People Would Receive Their Desperately Needed Supplies To Survive. My Brother, Major (Ret) Harry D. Barnes Flew 150 Missions And Said, His Son, Harry Bud Barnes, Jr.. Modeled For My Painting 23 Years Later. I Used A Snapshot My Brother Took At Fassberg, His Cap And Scarf Then Had To Track Down The Jacket At Western Costume In California. Bud Sported The Typical Mustache Of The Pilots Of That Which Many Have Today. This Was The Largest Aerial Supply Of A Major City Ever Undertaken. The Red Nose C-54s Composed Beautifully With The Red Cap And Scarf On The Pilot. Light On His Face Shows Weather Change.
