The U.S. Antarctica Scientific Station at McMurdo Sound is supplied by weekly Air Force flights from New Zealand. C-17 aircraft from the 446th Airlift Wing at McChord AFB rotate to Christchurch, New Zealand, during the summer months (Oct-Feb). New Zealand AF maintains a small air station where US C-130s & C-17s are based. In this scene a C-17 is landing on the 6-ft thick ice runway at McMurdo, with active volcano Mt Erebus nearby.
