Description:
The artist explained the "raison d'etre" of this painting as follows: In 1956, at a briefing session of the Caribbean Air Command, the artists were given a rundown on the very friendly relations that existed between our Air Force and the Air Force of Ecuador. Their best pilots had been trained in America, and others were in school in Panama. We, as artists, quite naturally felt there was no better way to point out this feeling of friendship than to do paintings that expressed our love of their own country. This task was made easy in that Ecuador is truly a beautiful land. I made several paintings in and of Quito, of which a local village is one.
