This work is the Artist?s first Air Force Art painting, created over fifty years ago. In the Artists Words: ?The deceptively cool nonchalance of the crew made flying the giant B-52 look easy until It rendezvoused with the tanker at 30,000 feet somewhere over Maine. Tension mounted as the B-52 moved into the receiver position below and behind the Kc-135 for the Hook-Up. Time then stood still as Airplane Commander Captain Harold King wrestled with the aircraft for the 15-20 minutes it took to transfer 100,000 pounds of jet fuel from one to the other. Copilot Lt. Bill Hessenius had regularly straightened the Capt King?s?s wrist/hand on the eight throttles since he could not look away from the tanker. When it was over, the commander?s flying clothing was soaked with perspiration as a welcome bottle of water automatically appeared from the bomb/nav stations below.?
