The drawing is a tribute to the B-24 Liberator. The B-24 didn't enjoy the glory that has been bestowed upon the B-17 Flying Fortress. The Liberator was faster, had greater range, and carried a larger payload. It was produced in greater numbers than any other U.S. warplane during World War II.
The B-24 was very versatile. Its duties included heavy bomber, cargo transport, photo-reconnaissance, and patrol bomber. The Liberator fought on all major fronts during the war. The B-24 complied a very credible record in the European Theater of Operations. It flew 226,775 sorties, dropped 452,508 tons of bombs, and shot down 2,617 attacking enemy fighters. The B-24 Liberator had a long and distinguished service career with the USAAF and the RAF.
