Francis Siddoway, who was in Germany in 1945 and his B-26 plane were shot down over Germany by German pilot Adolf Galland, on April 26,1945. Many years later Galland had this battle painted by artist Frank Wootton and called it "The Last Combat". Some forty, or so, years later Siddoway unexpectedly saw the painting in a book store window where Galland was doing a book signing. He approached Galland about the painting and realized this was the man who shot down his plane and the painting was of that incident. The two men became friends and stayed in touch by letters and phone. It is about the war but also about two sides coming together after many years.
