The Artist Wrote Of This Painting: The Natural Beauty Looking Towards Cypress Point Within Boundary Of The Famous 17 Mile Drive On The South Shore Of Monterey Bay Draws Many Writers, Photographers, And Artists. In The Spring Of 1961, When I Arrived In The Area To Paint, Nuns Were Picnicking There. Seeing An Almost Bird Like Quality In Their Black Hoods, I Felt That They Would Add Interest To My Painting. With A Background Setting Of The Rocky Shore, The Small Deep Coves And Sheltered Beaches Crowned With Monterey Pines And Monterey Cypress Which Is So Weirdly Shaped, I Included Planes From Nearby Air Force Bases, Which Were Constantly Patrolling The Coastline.
