On a mission with Major Bernie Fisher of the first Air Commando Squadron at Pleiku, South Vietnam, part of our morning was spent giving close air protection to a convoy coming up Highway 19 from the ocean. There had been many ambushes on 19 in the past. The shadow of our aircraft, as it passed the truck, certainly must have given the driver a greater sense of security. The old slow Douglas Skyraiders and their dedicated Air Commando pilots are a welcome sight to ground troops throughout Vietnam.
