May 5th in Japan is the day on which the boy-child is given top billing. This celebrated recognition is marked by flying brightly colored Carp kites over the home. The Carp is considered an unusually strong and hardy...hence, the symbol to insure strength, long life, etc., for the young male. Our own symbols of strength are in evidence the forms of aircraft and all it takes to keep them flying around the clock.
