This Painting Depicts An Rc-121d Of The 5523nd Airborne Warning And Control Wing Based At Mcclellan Air Force Base, Sacramento, California. The Aircraft Is Meeting A Pair Of F-4c Phantoms To Monitor Their Mission. In Vietnam, These Airborne Radar Stations Assisted Fighter Pilots In Making More Than 20 Victories Against Enemy Aircraft. The Constellation Has Always Been One Of My Favorite Aircraft, And Last Year I Was Inspired To Do This Painting When I Had My First Flight In One. It Was A C-121 Of The 552nd, Piloted By Major Lowell Davis, Chief Of The Wings Plans Division. Major Davis Related To Me The Important Part The Rc-121s Were Playing In Vietnam, A Fact Not Many Are Aware Of.
